Culinary Arts Salary - How Much You Could Be Earning.

You have made the decision to pursue a career in culinary arts, good for you! This is a competitive and up and coming career choice that has recently been increasing in popularity by leaps and bounds. You obviously have a passion for the art of cooking, but are you well versed on exactly what kind of salary you will be making? How much your culinary arts salary will be depend on many factors and van vary greatly. That may or may not be good news to you.
This wonderful and ever changing industry can be extremely rewarding while being both demanding and challenging. One who pursues this career is not merely just a chef, but can branch off into many specialties and sub specialties. Some of the most popular career specialties within this food service industry include pastry chef, personal chef, caterer, sous chef, line cook and countless others. Okay, let's get down to brass tacks and discuss what these specialties pay.

The problem here is that there is no way to tell "exactly" what you will get paid in this industry. Many factors are to be taken into consideration. One of the most important factors is where the establishment is located and what type of establishment it may be. In other words, a line cook in an elegant New York City restaurant will more than likely get a higher salary than a line cook in a mom and pop establishment in Kansas. Also, a personal chef or caterer who is just beginning their career commands a lower salary than one who has been in business ten years. On average, culinary arts professionals who make the decision to work outside a major city can make anywhere from $7.00 to $15.00 an hour. In retrospect, the same professional can make on average $22.00 an hour in a major city like New York, Chicago or Los Angeles. Many of the most established chefs who are working in a high-end restaurant are earning in excess of $100K a year. As in any growing industry, these approximations can increase or decrease depending upon education, experience, career advancement and stability of position.

As you can see there is no definitive salary for someone who enters the culinary arts industry. The industry is in high demand because it is a challenging and rewarding profession with salaries being important, but not on the top of the list. You must know that this is your passion and have a desire to excel. Working hard, being responsible and proving you are an asset to an establishment is the best way to guarantee a higher rate of pay whether you are pursuing a culinary arts career or any other career. By showing that you truly love what you do will get you far in your chosen culinary profession as well as make your dreams of a higher income a reality.
